Teeth and teething biscuits...

Lola's 1st teeth! Being the overly ambitious type, she decided to get one top tooth, followed by the bottom two, all on the very same day. If you look very hard, you can see her top tooth...
She also started eating big people food last week, and this week she is feeding herself with a spoon! She does very well...

On Sunday, we made our own teething biscuits from a recipe that we found in Wondertime Magazine. The kids had fun playing with them, but they ended up more like home made teething rings. They were so hard! Like cement. Or wood. Milo didn't want to give his up when it came to bath time, so we figured that there would be no harm with him taking it into the bath with him. After all, we were only having bath time for the play portion of it and were not going to be using soap. So into the tub the cookie went, and even after a 15 minute soak, the darn thing didn't dissolve. In fact, it was still as hard as it was before, and now Milo was insisting on taking it to bed with him! We drew the line there with the fear that his precious lovey would be replaced by a disgusting cookie that he would carry everywhere with him for the next 3 years because it would just not dissolve or crumble. I will, however, keep the dough recipe on hand for Christmas ornaments next year. Or better yet, when the kids are done gnawing on and playing with these we can paint them and add ribbons and not bother with making more.

Aren't they cute though?

And they made Milo happy...

Shhhh, it's a secret recipe...

Great pictures. I hate missing out on these fun times. Lola is growing up too fast. Hopefully she doesn't do everything 3 at a time. The teething cookies sounds like a fun time. I wonder why they turned out so hard. Milo is such a little cutie. He's always ready to have his picture taken. Love Mom xoxoxox

Hi -- I'm the editor of that recipe that appeared in Wondertime. I hope you don't mind my posting on your blog! It's great to see how beautifully your biscuits turned out, and how much your daughter appears to have enjoyed them. I just had to comment on their hardness -- they are actually supposed to be very hard, so that kids can't easily break them into chokeable pieces. (Although when we tested them they did slowly dissolve in the mouth...!) So I don't think you did anything wrong. They really are more like teething rings than biscuits, when you come right down to it. (Using them as tree ornaments isn't a bad idea...hmm. Keep an eye out in your December issue!)

Wow! I completely agree with them not being chokeable, they are actually the first cookie that we have allowed our daughter to hold all by herself, she is usually in the habit of taking bites that are way too big. Thanks for commenting!
